Build Physical Infrastructure for Jahalin Community Center
Last year, we successfully ran a campaign to support our community center and appreciated all of the support that we received from around the world. Now, we are coming back to ask for your support to build the physical infrastructure for our community center. With the $8000 we will have a new building to support the youth in our community!
We plan to build a permanent classroom to host our activities, which now take place in a makeshift bungalow. Currently, we have no place to hold equipment or to provide a comfortable shelter for the children. There is no heating in the winter or cooling in the summer, as well as a lack of electricity. We dream of hosting activities without constant interruption by seasonal weather. With a new building, we can expand our offerings to include women and youth, in addition to the +40 children that attend weekly. We have recently begun vocational classes for 12 Jahalin women in sewing and embroidery to sustain themselves. The funds will cover the expenses of a foundation of space around 100 square meters.
Our community in Area C lacks utilities, proper public education, and no opportunity for entertainment, with no accountability by the Israeli government. The eviction of Jahalin destroyed the fabric of the society and the role of mothers in the family and greater community. There is a high rate of unemployment, especially among educated women. Even though many attend university, the eviction of the Jahalin community challenged the status of women in society and enforced traditional housekeeping roles upon them. With vocational training, we aim to empower women and give them the tools to sustain themselves. The team is Ibtisem, who has run the Center for seven years, as well as Jenny, Grace, and other international volunteers. Supporters can help by donating, sharing on social media, and coming to visit the Center and play with the children.
What support is needed beyond money?
Advice/Mentoring on how to develop the organization further and establish new donor relations.
Building Material Donations: If any organization or company will be willing to donate materials such as concrete, iron, bricks, etc., that will make our crowdfunding goal more attainable and leave us space to use monetary donations for other necessary purposes.
Volunteering: You are welcome to join Ibtisam in her work with the children.
